My heart is always in my mouth when the decider episode of any reality show , especially singing is staged.
Either my knowledge of music is Kaput or some hanky-panky goes on nowadays in declaring the winner. I was stunned when SVOICU 2008 result was announced in the most lopsided manner and a really worthy Anweshaa was relegated to second position to a singer with limited capability but affluant parents.
Same thing happened this Sunday when results of Zee Saregamapa Lil champs (Bangla) was announced. Papri was THE MOST universally loved and appreciated contestant and I could not believe my eyes and ears when the judges announced the result.
Papri the young genius was shoved to third position and Arinjita who is no where near Papri was second and winner was a boy with just good singing capability (but atrocious diction problem) Rahul was declared winner.
I have a lot to say about what went behind the stage and how Papri was mis treated but my friends have cautioned about putting it in print on public domain.
A friend had met with Papri's father and horrible stories have emerged about the whole sordid affair.
But let me assure you Papri, that we in USA are behind you as we are behind Anweshaa and we will go all the way to bring you up.
Papri we love you.

I agree with you that Papri is a genius in making and will follow Anweshaa .
She does need backing of music loving people.
I am agahast at apathy shown by people from Bengal who do not even take trouble of recording or video tapping her performances unlike Marathi people who have posted Marathi lil champs in youtube.
I request general public and music lovers to come forward and post Pari's performance and if they have Anweshaa's saregamapa lil champs videos.

ReplyDeletei totally agree with you. i was supporting Paapri all through. she deserved to win. judges were hell bent on making Rahul the winner. The only remarkable perfromance he gave was 'afreen'.
Pappri gave stupendous performances one after the other, she was fabulous. I hope she has a bright future ahead...

I have seen many little wonders singing brilliantly, but I have never seen anybody of Papri's class. When we listen Papri singing it seems that as if Papri is the original singer of that Song.I have never heared any singer singing with that kind of maturity.Papri is the best and uncomparable.

Guys listen to Papri - Rahul on Thursday to Saturday on Zee Bangla from 9:30 pm. Also, an earnest request, if anyone of u have the ability to record videos please do so and post papri-rahul's perf on youtube please guys... Papri is a great find and needs to be promoted at the national stage.

ReplyDeletePapri 103/120 at the 4th spot out of 5 at the end of the 3rd round itself is a testimony to the nepotism that took place. The performances that she was graded on - daiya re kaise Fasi, Amar Din Kate Na and Ke sara sara... she at least deserved 116/120. But hats of to the poise of this kid... Papri.

ReplyDeleteYesterday, Papri and Rahul sang "Tere Mere Milan Ki" (Abhimaan), where Papri was outstanding. But what I found is that Rahul applies all his pressure to make every song well, but thats not called singing. But while singing Papri takes every high notes, low notes and many critical places of the song in such a smooth way. Her voice is totally prepared for singing and she is ready to sing each and every song in a best way, the flow always remains in her song, that's the power and potentiality of a great great singer. If she concentrates 100% in her singing, then no one can stop her from being a great legend in future after Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle. Do you agree with me Hemant da?

Right at this point it will be unfair on our part to consider papri to be the successor to Ashaji and Lataji.. she has just started to make a name for herself and has still a long long way to go.

ReplyDeleteFirst time i heard this performance.thanks to arindam for the audio link.first time when i heard this song i thought 2 girls were singing..i was aware of papri..but who was the 2nd girl??i was thinking..then i came to know that "girl"is rahul..zee bangla 2009 champion :).now coming to song i think both of them were not ready for this duet song..raahul do not hv the range to perform this song..and i personally feel papri is much much more comfortable with solo numbers..though she sang well.friends i m not a student of music..i just expressed what i feel.

What Vivek has said is an addition to what Abhisekh has said... Papri is having to adjust her range to suit Rahul.. Papri herself carries off duets so well. I just hope that while singing solo I get my Papri of mera kuch saman, na re na shravan ashe na, katra katra or for that matter e sudhoo ganer dine... or ami je tomar... let us now start playing this game... who among the reality show singers would u guys enjoy Papri singing with??

ReplyDeletebelieve it or not, I too felt that two girls were singing.
Only difference is one gir's voice was taking all the murkis and Jagahs properly and there was a wonderful quality about the voice. What Rahul sang in his girlish voice, frankly he sounded gross at places. There was no depth of feelings or voice in his delivery.
I thought Papri ne thoda Rahul ke liye adjust karke gaaya.

Hello Arindam da, I can hear both the songs "Pathjhar Saawan" and "Tere Mere Milan Ki" in a buffering mode by clicking the audio link that you gave, but I did'nt find these two songs by searching in esnips mobile. I found those songs which you added Papri(Mera kuch saaman), Papri(Amar din kate na), Papri(K sera sera) and more which could be downloaded. Please add these two above songs and more comming songs of Papri's live performance so that I can download it. Well, are you aware that Asha audio has promised to release an album of "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa -lil champs" in september!

ReplyDeleteI have downloaded a free recording software off the internet... which I use to record the audio in the same way as we record audio in a tape recorder. Then I post them into the esnipes folder for everybody else to hear.
ReplyDeleteRegarding, the videos I do not have the camera to do it. But when u look at the internet and the videos of cu or srgmp- lil champs... people record the video off the tv screen using either a video camera or a tv card, neither of whch I have.

ReplyDeleteArindam da, Thank you for the link. I've found 9 photos of Papri. Did you watch SRGMP-Biswa Sera, where Aneek was the anchor and Shanu da, Shantanu da and Runa Laila were judges. Among all the participants of Biswa Sera, I liked Arpita Di's voice and her performance to be the superb best. I've also found two photos of her here. I've declared my best. Who was your best? I'll see if the episodes are retelecasted on Mon, Tue and Wed morning.

ReplyDeleteI just finshed listening to the srgmp lil champs.. papri and rahul looked totally of colors... papri's hindi diction problems were back.. and they ended up 25.5/30.. this by far is the lowest score that have seen papri get... SO NO UPLOADINGS
ReplyDeletethe biggest problem that I find with Papri, apart from her Hindi diction is her attitude. Her classical prowess needs rounding... I not worried about that for I am sure she will work on that. But her attitude needs a sea change. On some days e.g., when she sung iis more pe or mera kuch saman.. the moment she comes on to the stage u know.. it is her day and she will nail that song.. on a few other days... like today or when she sung katchhe din, the moment she walks in, u know by her face that it is not her day, she looks uninterested and screws up the song.
ReplyDeleteIn a duet competetion, she needs to understand that her lack of interest rubs on her partner. Papri's parents apart of taking steps to improve her classical prowess and Hindi have to put this hard on her face.
Papri is a great singer and the stage her office and the fans clients. She cannot go to the stage uninterested and with her worries and then give 50 %. She has to work on this..., to me this can be fixed if her parents keep hitting this hard and today, I am happy that Rupankar (do not get this guy wrong.. he is a Papri fan and whatever he told is for Papri's good) took Papri to task today. Hemantdada ur comments of this.

I did not record.. but papri was awesome.. her start was weak as the judges pted out but she back strongly after that.. which made rupankar say that papri is too good.. but in bethe na bithaye naina.. she was defintely not at her best..
